We are the heirs of woodworkers in the world of contemporary design. Tradition and innovation are the two lenses through which we see life. Design:
It is our mindset—and not momentary esthetic trends—that we want to see emerge in every one of our designs. From the moment of conception, our furniture is devised to transcend the balance between function and beauty. We want our furniture to stand up for the values of honesty and sustainability. We want it to build bridges between people and prompt human connection, and to reflect our trajectory while responding to the needs of customers and markets today.

Raw materials:
The journey of our Bob chair continues at the beech and oakwood storehouse, where the material is carefully selected on criteria of sustainability, quality and beauty. Our designers look at each piece of wood as a sculptor would at a block of marble: looking for the potential to become, through chiseling and moulding, what they have imagined and drawn, and for the possibility of using impeccable design to transform the raw material into a contemporary product.

Technique:
Our production process today comprises both artisanal techniques and technology; it requires expert hands, trained eyes, and also modern machinery. We care for our heritage, and at the same time, we are always seeking to innovate and evolve without doubting our origins.

Traceability:
We have our own wood manufacturing and painting plants, as well as one for steel-handling, which allow us to be flexible and deliver a bespoke final product with full vertical traceability. Our production process allows us to offer a unique response time and service of the highest quality.

Carbon footprint is worked into every design. The idea is redesigned taking into account sustainability criteria, use of raw materials and their origin, reduction of assembly pieces, packaging and transport, minimising excess and recyclability, energy efficiency in processes, and resources to the local economy. In itself that has a double impact as it is much more ecological to work with local suppliers in this industry to minimise the transport carbon footprint.

We work with sustainable materials to keep Ondarreta’s environmental impact to a minimum, all this through the reduction of raw materials consumption, whether is using recycled polypropylene or including materials of a biological origin with the objective of minimising the consumption of raw materials.

We work with suppliers such as the steel one, whose raw material consists of scrap mixtures with a percentage of recycled material higher than 80%, being the steel 100% recyclable, and declare for all the wooden products the purchase, transport and sale under sustainable conditions.

An analysis shows that 70% of production costs are derived to the local economy in salaries, taxes and in investment in suppliers. From Ondarreta we have always worked towards imprinting as many company values as possible in our products, over the past few years we have done an in-depth exercise to re-shape our supply chain and to make our products in the most local and sustainable way.

Suppliers have been brought over 1000km closer and now the components needed to make a chair only travel 150km.

As of today, approximately 14% of the product we sell is Eco-designed. We have achieved this working hand in hand with collaborative businesses, as well as the wide net of suppliers in the area with the same aim and philosophy that Ondarreta.

Ondarreta has the following certificates that recognise our commitment with the environment:

Everything started at the Ondarreta beach in San Sebastian, a beach that keeps the secrets of those who summer in its waters and the roots of a carpentry workshop that would be the beginning of a family history dedicated to the design and manufacture of furniture.

Today, more than 45 years after, Ondarreta has travelled from that small workshop in the beach to where it is today, available in more than 50 countries. We have a wide logistic and distribution net in place and are able to sell and deliver our products around the world.
